8th Pay Commission Updates: The chairman and members of the commission will be appointed as soon as the notification is issued. The formation of the Eighth Pay Commission was formally announced on January 16, 2025.
Eighth Pay Commission Updates: Over one crore government employees and pensioners across the country are eagerly awaiting the Eighth Pay Commission and are closely monitoring every development regarding it. Although the government approved the formation of the Eighth Pay Commission in January 2025, an official notification has not yet been issued, nor have the Commission’s Chairman and members been appointed.
One crore employees and pensioners wait
The formation was expected by Diwali, but the central government clarified that intensive discussions are underway with state governments on this matter. Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary stated in the Rajya Sabha that the notification regarding the Commission is yet to be issued. However, he also stated that a final decision has not yet been taken, but preparations are underway.
As soon as the notification is issued, the Chairman and members of the Commission will be appointed. The formation of the Eighth Pay Commission was formally announced on January 16, 2025. Its purpose is to review the pay structure, allowances, and pensions of central government employees. However, according to sources, its implementation is unlikely before 2026.
What is the fitment factor?
The fitment factor plays a crucial role in the new pay structure, as it directly impacts the calculation of basic salary and pension. The Seventh Pay Commission set a fitment factor of 2.57. At that time, the minimum salary was fixed at ₹18,000 and the minimum pension at ₹9,000, while DA and DR were 58 percent.
If the government increases the fitment factor to 1.92 in the Eighth Pay Commission, the minimum salary will rise to ₹34,560 and the minimum pension to ₹17,280. However, if it is increased to 2.08, the basic salary could reach ₹37,440 and the pension could reach ₹18,720. Furthermore, as soon as the new Pay Commission becomes effective, DA and DR will automatically become zero (0%).
