Postal Services to US: India Post’s international postal services were suspended on August 22 due to an executive order issued by the US administration. The Department of Posts has now announced the resumption of services in compliance with these revised US import requirements.
India Post: The Indian Postal Department made a significant announcement on Tuesday, stating that international postal services for all categories to the United States of America (USA) are being resumed from October 15, 2025. This decision will provide significant relief to MSMEs and e-commerce exporters, as they will regain a low-cost shipping option.
Why were services suspended?
International postal services were previously suspended on August 22 due to an executive order issued by the US administration. India Post stated that this suspension was necessitated by new regulatory requirements introduced by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for the collection and remittance of import duties. The postal department has now announced the resumption of services in compliance with these revised US import requirements.
Trump Implements New Tariff Rules
According to India Post, under new guidelines from US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), postal shipments sent from India to the US will be subject to a customs duty at a flat rate of 50 percent of the declared consignment value. The department clarified that, unlike courier or commercial consignments, no additional base or product-specific charges will be levied on postal items.
The Postal Department stated, “This favorable duty structure significantly reduces the overall cost burden for exporters, making the postal channel a more affordable and competitive logistics option for MSMEs, artisans, small traders, and e-commerce exporters.”
Customers Will Not Have to Pay Extra Charges
The Postal Department has also clarified that it will not charge customers any additional fees for facilitating DDP (Delivered Duty Paid) and Qualified Party services. “Postage charges will remain unchanged,” the official statement said. This ensures that exporters continue to benefit from affordable international delivery rates while complying with revised US import requirements.
