Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released the latest status regarding ₹2000 notes. This pink note of Rs 2000 remains a completely ‘legal tender’ even today (its legal validity remains completely intact). Actually, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given this information by sharing a post from its official X account.

What do RBI figures say?

19 May 2023 was the date when RBI had informed about taking out Rs 2000 notes from circulation, then there were total Rs 3.56 lakh crore worth Rs 2000 notes present in the market. According to the data of April 30, 2026, now only notes worth Rs 5,451 crore are left in the market. This means that 98.47% of the notes have gone back into the banking system. But, RBI has shared information regarding the 1.5% notes that are still with the people.

Where can you exchange notes

Exchange at RBI offices: You can exchange your Rs 2,000 notes at any of the 19 RBI issue offices across the country.

Deposit into your bank account: RBI issue offices also take ₹2,000 notes for direct deposit into your bank account.

Send through India Post: You can get ₹2,000 notes credited to your bank account by mailing them through India Post to any RBI issue office from any post office in India.
