The Meteorological Department has today issued a red color warning of extremely heavy rainfall with torrential rain for 3 major states/regions of the country (East Rajasthan, Gujarat State and Central Maharashtra). Apart from this, alert has been given for heavy rain, thunder, lightning and stormy winds in 18 states and union territories of North and North-East India from Rajasthan, Konkan, Odisha.
Red alert in 3 areas, there will be extremely heavy rain today
According to the Meteorological Department, today there will be severe accumulation of clouds at some places in three major states and regions, where extremely heavy rains can be recorded. Today, there is a possibility of extremely heavy rainfall with extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in eastern parts of Rajasthan. Life may be affected due to waterlogging and heavy rains in the plains and coastal areas of Gujarat. Caution has been advised regarding extremely heavy rains in Central Maharashtra and its Ghat areas.
There will be very heavy rain in these areas
According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in three important parts of the country today. Extremely heavy rains will continue in the areas of coastal Maharashtra and Goa. Heavy to very heavy rainfall has been predicted in various parts of Odisha today. An alert of torrential rain has also been given in the western districts of Rajasthan.
Heavy rain warning in these 18 states
The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast of heavy rain at different places in 18 states and union territories of the country.
North and North-West India: There will be heavy rain in the hilly states of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh.
Central India: Moderate to heavy rains will continue in areas of Madhya Pradesh.
Eastern India: Heavy rain may occur at many places in Bihar and Gangetic West Bengal.
Northeast India: There is an alert of torrential rain in the hilly and plain areas of Assam and Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura.
South India: Heavy rain is also likely over areas of Coastal Karnataka.
Warning of storm, lightning and strong winds
Along with rain, IMD has issued an alert of strong winds and lightning in different parts of the country. Strong gusty winds with a speed of 40 to 50 km per hour along with thunderstorms will occur in Interior Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal today. Winds at a speed of 30 to 40 km per hour and lightning are expected in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Bihar, Coastal Karnataka, Gangetic West Bengal, Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh, Jharkhand, Kerala and Mahe, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan and Telangana.
There is a possibility of lightning along with thunder in Andhra Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Gujarat region, Central Maharashtra, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Uttarakhand and Vidarbha. Strong surface winds are expected in areas of coastal Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telangana.
