IRCTC’s New Website to Make Ticket Booking Easier, Relief for Passengers

IRCTC Ticket Booking: Good news for railway passengers. The Railway Ministry is launching a beta version of IRCTC’s new website to make online train ticket booking much easier and faster for passengers. It is expected to be available to the public by July 15.

The evaluation of the new beta version and the enhanced Passenger Reservation System (PRS) has been finalized, and it is set to go live for everyone by July 15, 2026. Recently, officials from IRCTC and CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems) collaborated with students from MNIT Jaipur to review the website, addressing the technical issues of the current system and contributing to its improvement.

This new website will feature four major changes that will significantly enhance the passenger experience. Ticket booking will be free from the frustrating, complex captchas, distracting graphics, and unnecessary pop-ups. Additionally, passengers will no longer have to click separately to check for available seats in Sleeper, Third AC, or Second AC; instead, all categories will be visible on one screen at the same time.

Booking tickets will be much quicker

The Railways has also streamlined the ticket booking process by reducing the number of steps involved, which will lead to faster checkouts and quicker bookings for Tatkal and General tickets. Moreover, passenger information such as name and age will be pre-saved, eliminating the need to fill out forms repeatedly.

In conjunction with this overhaul, the railway is also modernizing its 40-year-old passenger reservation system engine, after which the final version of the website will be fully operational. Ajit Kumar Sinha, the Chief Regional Manager of IRCTC, stated that the new website version will make passenger booking much easier.

What will be the benefit of the new website?

Some reports claim that this website will launch with a capacity of 100,000 tickets per minute. The new website may also alleviate passengers’ slow speed and frequent crashes. It will display seat availability for all classes simultaneously, and once passenger details are saved, rebooking tickets will become easier. It’s worth noting that the current IRCTC website often crashes as soon as Tatkal ticket booking begins, causing difficulties for passengers. Passengers also complain about the captcha. Limited time is given to solve the captcha, and by the time it’s solved, the time has already passed.
