Losing your Aadhaar card, PAN card, or passport doesn’t have to be a cause for alarm anymore. The government has streamlined the process, enabling you to easily obtain duplicate documents from the convenience of your home. The crucial first step is to file a Lost Document Report (LDR).
What is the Lost Document Report (LDR)?
1. It is an official report that can be submitted online on the police portal.
2. This report serves as evidence of the lost documents and facilitates the issuance of duplicates.
3. Visiting a police station is no longer necessary; the report can be filed online.
Steps to take if your Aadhaar Card goes missing
1. You can recover your number by accessing the UIDAI website and choosing “Retrieve UID/EID.”
2. Subsequently, you can download or request a reprint of your e-Aadhaar.
3. It is essential that your mobile number is linked to your Aadhaar. You can update your Aadhaar details or submit documents via the MyAadhaar portal or at the nearest Aadhaar center.

How to recover Aadhaar card?
Because your Aadhaar is not linked to your mobile number, and you don’t remember your Aadhaar number, you won’t be able to download it from home. You will have to visit the enrollment center to recover your Aadhaar card. Here you will have to provide the 28 digit enrolment ID number which you received while making Aadhaar.
After this, the employee present at the enrollment center will do your biometric verification.
You will be asked for some basic details. After this, your e-Aadhaar will be readily available. You will only need to pay 30 rupees for this.
If your mobile number is linked to Aadhaar, then you can easily download a new Aadhaar sitting at home.
How to download?
Step 1- For this you will have to visit the official website of UIDAI.
Step 2- Now go to the My Aadhaar section here.
Step 3- After this you have to click on Retrieve Lost or Forgotten UID/EID.
Step 4- Now you have to enter the required information like name, date of birth and mobile number or email linked to Aadhaar.
Step 5- You will receive an OTP on your registered mobile number or email address. Enter this OTP here.
Step 6- As soon as you enter the OTP, every detail related to Aadhaar will be shown to you.
Step 7- With this, Aadhaar will be sent to your email.
You don’t even need to pay any fees for this.
In case of a lost PAN card, the procedure to obtain a new one is as follows
1. Apply for a duplicate PAN (reprint) online if your PAN card is lost.
2. Utilize the NSDL/UTIITSL portal for this purpose.
3. If you recall your PAN number, the process becomes more straightforward.
If your passport is misplaced, follow these steps
1. Initially, file a Lost Report/FIR.
2. Proceed to the Passport Seva Portal and request a ‘Re-Issue of Passport.’
3. Upon application, schedule an appointment and complete the verification process.
Why is it crucial to report the loss promptly?
* Reporting promptly can prevent the misuse of your documents.
* It helps in avoiding complications with banking, KYC procedures, or official matters.
* Prompt reporting facilitates the issuance of duplicate documents.
In the digital era, losing important documents is no longer a significant issue. By adhering to the correct protocols, you can recover all your essential documents within a short period, eliminating the need to endure long queues.
