India Weather Forecast: Monsoon Arrives in Bihar, Heavy Rains in South, Heatwave in Rajasthan

India is currently experiencing a dramatic weather divide. While the southern states grapple with torrential rains and flood warnings, a significant portion of the north continues to endure scorching heatwave conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has released updated forecasts, signaling both much-needed relief and continued warnings across the country.

North India: A Mix of Relief and Relentless Heat

After enduring days of intense heat and humidity, residents of Delhi-NCR are finally expected to experience some respite. The IMD forecasts light to moderate rainfall for June 14, offering temporary relief from temperatures that have consistently soared above 40°C.

In Uttar Pradesh, eastern regions like Maharajganj, Kushinagar, Bahraich, and Bareilly are set to receive heavy rainfall. However, the western districts, including Jhansi, Lalitpur, and Agra, remain under the grip of heatwave conditions. The monsoon is anticipated to reach Uttar Pradesh between June 17 and 19.

The monsoon’s arrival in Bihar is now expected by June 16, a slight delay from previous forecasts. Jharkhand will likely see a change in weather from June 15, with rainfall predicted for Ranchi, Jamshedpur, Daltonganj, and surrounding areas. These regions have recently seen daytime temperatures hovering near 40°C.

Southern India: Battling Heavy Rains and Floods

Karnataka continues to face relentless rainfall, particularly in its coastal and interior districts. Reports include one fatality and one missing person in Belagavi and Dharwad, respectively. Several areas have reported flooding, waterlogging, and house collapses. The IMD has issued a red alert for Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts, leading to school closures.

Due to a cyclonic circulation over Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema are forecast to receive heavy rain and strong winds ranging from 40 to 50 kmph over the next five days.

Rajasthan: Unprecedented Heat Persists

Sriganganagar recorded a staggering 49.4°C, marking its highest June temperature since 1934. While pre-monsoon showers are likely to bring marginal relief to Udaipur, Kota, and Jaipur by June 15, extreme heat conditions are expected to persist in Jodhpur and Bikaner.

Widespread Showers and Continued Alerts

Kerala, Maharashtra, Odisha, and Gujarat are all expecting widespread rainfall. Despite light rain forecasts in parts of Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana, heatwave conditions are set to remain across most of north and central India. Meanwhile, Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh in the Northeast will continue to receive heavy rain, increasing the risk of landslides in hilly regions.

In summary, while southern and northeastern states brace for heavy rainfall and potential flooding, northern India remains under severe heat stress. The monsoon is making steady progress and is expected to significantly expand its reach across the country after June 16.
