Cloudburst Hits Kullu & Dharamshala: Wednesday was no less than a disaster in Himachal Pradesh! Nature wreaked such havoc amidst the orange alert that there was chaos everywhere. The terrible flood caused by cloudburst at five places in Kullu and Dharamshala destroyed everything. 2 people died in this natural disaster and 11 people are still missing. At the same time, more than 2000 tourists are stranded at different places.

Cloudburst occurred in Jiwanala of Sainj, Shilagarh of Gadsa, Snow Gallery of Manali and Hornagad of Banjar in Kullu district. Flood water came so fast at these places that people could not even recover. In Kullu, this flood swept away 8 vehicles, 10 small culverts and an entire power project. In Raila Bihal of Sainj, three people were swept away in the strong flow of water due to cloudburst.
Disaster in Dharamshala too!
A cloudburst also occurred in the Manuni Khad of Khaniyara near Dharamshala, due to which more than 10 workers of the under-construction hydro power project are reported to have been swept away. So far two bodies have been recovered, and SDRF teams are continuously carrying out rescue operations on the spot.
More than 2000 tourists stranded, rescue operation continues!
More than 2,000 tourists along with more than 150 tourist vehicles are stranded in Shanshar, Shanghad and Suchaihan Panchayat areas of Sainj Valley. Due to bad road near Siund, they are unable to find any way to get out. At the same time, 25 tourists are still stranded in Lahaul, efforts are on to rescue them.
Life disrupted, roads and electricity stopped
The continuous heavy rain has completely disrupted the lives of people in Kullu, Mandi and Kangra. 171 roads including Aut-Banjar-Sainj NH-305 have been closed in the state and more than 550 electricity transformers have also stopped working. Four planes landed at Gaggal airport on Wednesday, but two flights to Delhi and Shimla had to be cancelled. No flights could take place from Shimla and Kullu.
Debris entered the school, police weapons washed away!
A small bridge and a vehicle were washed away due to cloudburst in Hornagad of Banjar. Even a government primary school was washed away by debris, where the local people immediately rescued the children. Many foot bridges and more than ten culverts were also washed away in Gadsa valley. Areas like Manikaran and Jibhi have also suffered heavy losses due to floods. A one megawatt electricity project in Jiwanala of Sainj has been completely washed away.
This disaster was also heavy for the police. The temporary shed of the guard of the Third Battalion Pandoh stationed at the power house of NHPC in Siund in Sainj valley was damaged. The 10 police personnel posted here had nothing left except clothes. The sad thing is that three to four of their weapons also got washed away in the water and one soldier got injured, who has been admitted to Kullu Hospital.
Administration on alert, rescue work in full swing
Kullu Additional Deputy Commissioner Ashwani Kumar said that the NDRF team is on the spot and rescue work is going on continuously. Kangra Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa said that cloudburst has not been confirmed yet, but the water level in the ravines is very high. He said that two bodies have been recovered and SDRF teams including SDM are present on the spot.
Weather Department’s warning: Yellow alert issued!
The Meteorological Center Shimla has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in many parts of Himachal on Thursday. The weather will remain the same till July 2. The Meteorological Department has also warned of floods in some areas of Chamba, Kangra, Mandi, Shimla and Sirmaur today. The intensity of rain is expected to be high on June 26 and 27, while light rain is expected from June 28 to July 2. On Wednesday, the maximum temperature of the state decreased by four to five degrees Celsius.
