Do this first

As soon as you feel that the money has gone to the wrong account, immediately follow the steps given below: Go to the relevant app (Google Pay, PhonePe, Paytm, BHIM etc.). Go to transaction details and select the option of “Report an issue” or “Raise complaint”. Fill in the full details of the mistake and also take a screenshot.

Contact the bank

If the app doesn’t respond, contact your bank’s customer care. Give them the transaction ID, date and time. The bank will register a complaint and try to contact the wrong account holder. If the other person agrees to return the money, the process becomes easier.

Register a complaint with NPCI

Police complaint

Be sure to keep these things in mind

Before sending money, double check the receiver’s name, mobile number and UPI ID. After scanning the QR code, check if the receiver’s name appears on the screen. Always save the screenshot of the transaction receipt. Use the “Beneficiary Save” feature in UPI apps.
