The Indian government is emphasizing on alternative energy instead of conventional energy. The goal is to reduce import bills by reducing the use of diesel and petrol. This is not only helpful for the environment but also profitable in terms of foreign exchange reserves. Keeping this in mind, the government has set a target of 40 percent electricity generation through non-conventional methods by 2030. It has set a target of generating 100 gigawatts of electricity from solar power by the end of this year. Out of this, 40 megawatts are planned to be produced by installing solar panels on the roof. Subsidies are also being given for installing the panels. Income can also be earned by selling electricity in this project.
This project is profitable in many ways. First, the cost of installing solar panels under this scheme is low. Because a part of it comes from government subsidies. Apart from the central government, several states are also providing additional subsidies. On the other hand, with the installation of solar panels, the hassle of monthly electricity bills is also relieved. The electricity for daily use of the house is generated from solar panels on the roof. The third benefit is that this scheme also provides income opportunities. If the solar panels on the roof of the house generate more electricity than required, you can also sell it.

The solar rooftop subsidy scheme is three-fold. The cost can be recovered in two and a half years. Usually, a solar panel of 2-4 kW is enough for a house. With the help of this, an AC, 2-4 fans, a refrigerator, 6-8 LED lights, 1 water motor and electrical appliances like TV can be used. Now suppose you live in Burdwan. The roof of the house is 1000 square feet. If you install solar panels on half the roof i.e. 500 square feet, then the capacity of the plant will be 4.6 kW. The total cost of this will be Rs 1.88 lakh. Which will come down to Rs 1.26 lakh after subsidy.
