UP Kanya Sumangala Yojana: The ‘Chief Minister Kanya Sumangala Yojana’, run by the Uttar Pradesh government, is proving to be a revolutionary initiative for the daughters of the state. This scheme, which implements the central and state governments’ “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” pledge, reduces the financial burden on families from the time of their daughters’ birth to their higher education.
The Uttar Pradesh government has now increased the total assistance amount from ₹15,000 to ₹25,000, so that daughters from economically weaker families can also pursue college and diploma education without any obstacles.
What is the Kanya Sumangala Yojana
Launched in October 2019, this scheme is a flagship scheme of the Uttar Pradesh government. Its primary objective is to foster a positive attitude toward daughters in society, prevent social evils like child marriage, and completely curb female foeticide.

The most significant feature of this scheme is that the money is not disbursed all at once, but is sent directly to the beneficiary’s bank account in six separate installments at different stages of the daughter’s development and education. Even in 2026, the scheme remains robustly implemented throughout the state, empowering millions of families with the increased amount.
Know when the installment will arrive
The government has divided the total amount of ₹25,000 into six crucial stages. First, the first installment of ₹5,000 is given upon the birth of a daughter. The second assistance amount of ₹2,000 is sent when the daughter completes her one-year-old’s full vaccination program. This is followed by the education phase, where an installment of ₹3,000 is provided upon admission to Class 1 and another ₹3,000 upon admission to Class 6.
To promote higher secondary education, ₹5,000 is provided upon admission to Class 9. Finally, when the daughter passes Class 12 and enrolls in a graduate or diploma course of at least two years, she receives the final and largest installment of ₹7,000. This entire amount is deposited directly into the parent or guardian’s account through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT).
Who can avail the benefits
The Kanya Sumangala Yojana is only available to families residing in Uttar Pradesh. To be eligible for this scheme, the family’s total annual income must not exceed ₹3 lakh. Only a maximum of two daughters per family can benefit from this scheme, and the total number of children in the family should also be limited to two.
However, exemptions are provided under certain circumstances, such as if twins are born during the second delivery. In such a case, the third daughter will also be eligible for the scheme. At the time of application, the family must have a residence certificate and income proof from Uttar Pradesh.

Online Application Process
The entire application process for this scheme is transparent and digital, and can be completed through the official website of the Women and Child Development Department. First, you must register yourself by visiting the ‘Citizen Service Portal’. After agreeing to the terms and conditions, you must enter your mobile number and Aadhaar number. After OTP verification, you will receive a unique user ID and password, which you can use to log in.
After logging in, you will need to fill in your daughter’s complete details and upload the required documents, such as Aadhaar card, bank passbook photo, income certificate, residence certificate, and your daughter’s latest photo. After thoroughly checking the form, submit it, and after which the benefits will start being received as soon as it is verified by the concerned authorities.
