Heavy Rainfall Alert: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a major weather alert for tomorrow, May 26th. The weather department has warned of heavy to very heavy rainfall in 13 states across the country. According to the IMD’s evening bulletin, a dangerous thunderstorm with winds of 50 to 60 km per hour will hit many parts of the country, including Bihar and Jharkhand, on May 26th. The southwest monsoon is also steadily strengthening. The monsoon has advanced into many parts of the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, and conditions are favorable for its further advance over the next two to three days.

The most severe torrential rain alert has been issued for the states of Northeast India on May 26th. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in parts of Assam and Meghalaya on May 26th. Heavy rain alerts have been issued for several areas of Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on May 26th.
Heavy Rain Alerts Will Also Be Issued in These States
In addition to the Northeast, several other southern and eastern states of the country are also expected to experience torrential rain on May 26th. Heavy rain will occur in Bihar, parts of sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Heavy rain will be observed in Kerala and Mahe in South India, as well as in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. This trend will continue in Kerala until May 27th.

On May 26th, several parts of the country are under an alert for lightning, along with strong dust storms and winds of up to 40-50 kmph. These areas include Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Telangana, West Bengal and Sikkim, Kerala and Mahe, Lakshadweep, Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra, and northern interior Karnataka. Furthermore, thunderstorms with winds of up to 30-40 kmph are expected in some areas of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Assam and Meghalaya, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. A lightning alert is also issued for Arunachal Pradesh and coastal Karnataka.
Severe heatwave alert in Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Punjab
While several states are under an alert for thunderstorms and rain, the harsh sun will continue to pound the plains tomorrow. A severe to very severe heat wave is on alert for Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, eastern Madhya Pradesh, western Rajasthan, and the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra on May 26th. This situation will persist in Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi until May 27th. Severe heat wave conditions will also persist in western Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Extreme humidity and sticky heat will continue to plague people in Gangetic West Bengal, Konkan and Goa, Saurashtra and Kutch regions of Gujarat, and coastal areas of Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal. Night temperatures are also expected to be significantly higher than normal in Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Telangana, and Vidarbha on May 26th, leading to warm night conditions.
High-Speed Winds at Sea: Fishermen Warning
Arabian Sea: Strong winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are expected along the Kerala coast, Lakshadweep, Comorin Islands, and Maldives on May 26.
Bay of Bengal: High-speed winds of 40-50 kmph, gusting to 60 kmph, are expected along the Gulf of Mannar, Sri Lanka coast, and many parts of the southern Bay of Bengal tomorrow.
