IMD issues heavy rain alert in 12 states including Bihar, thunderstorms likely in 23 states, see Weather Alert

Kal ka Mausam 19 June: On June 19, two very different forms of weather will be seen in many states of the country. On one hand, the Meteorological Department has given a strong alert of heavy to very heavy rain in 12 states/regions of the country including Bihar and Assam. There is a threat of thunderstorm and hailstorm in 23 states.

Tomorrow’s weather, June 19: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a special daily weather bulletin and warning for the country for June 19. Tomorrow, two very different weather patterns will be seen in many states of the country. On the one hand, the Meteorological Department has issued a strict alert of heavy to very heavy rain in 12 states/regions of the country, including Bihar and Assam. On the other hand, there is a threat of thunderstorms, storms and hailstorms in 23 states. Heat wave will also continue in some states, including Uttar Pradesh.

Monsoon status: Conditions favourable for further advance into these states

The Northern Limit of the Southwest Monsoon (NLM) is currently passing through Harnai, Solapur, Hyderabad, Bhadrachalam, Koraput, Phulbani, Ranchi, Jamui, and Muzaffarpur. According to the Meteorological Department, conditions are favorable for the monsoon to advance into Telangana, Odisha, Jharkhand, some more parts of Bihar, and some areas of Chhattisgarh during the next 4-5 days.

Heavy rain alert in these 12 states including Bihar and Assam

Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in many parts of the country on June 19. An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall has been issued for isolated parts of Assam and Meghalaya, and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim. Heavy rainfall is also likely in isolated pockets of Bihar, Arunachal Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Karaikal in South India, and Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura in the Northeast.

Severe cyclone of 80 Kmph in Bihar and Rajasthan

Wind speeds could be extremely destructive in some states on June 19th. Severe thunderstorms with winds of 60-70 km/h, gusting to 80 kmph, are expected in both Bihar and eastern Rajasthan. A thunderstorm alert with winds of 50-60 km/h has been issued for Jharkhand, Odisha, western Madhya Pradesh, and western Rajasthan. Dust storms are also likely at isolated places in western Rajasthan tomorrow.

Thunderstorm and lightning alert issued in 23 states including Delhi and UP

On June 19, isolated areas across 23 states/regions will experience thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds. These include Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh, Kerala and Mahe, Konkan and Goa, Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, Vidarbha, East Madhya Pradesh, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, North Interior Karnataka, and West Bengal and Sikkim.

Dust storms and thunderstorms with speeds of up to 40-50 km/h are expected in all these areas. Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka are likely to experience light to moderate thunderstorms with lightning tomorrow. Lightning and thunderstorm alerts are in place for Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya, Chhattisgarh, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura tomorrow.

Hailstorm warning issued in Himachal, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir

The hill states are set to face a double whammy of thunderstorms and hailstorms tomorrow. According to the latest weather department bulletin, severe hailstorms accompanied by thunderstorms are expected in isolated areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Jammu and Kashmir-Ladakh.

Severe heat wave to continue in Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra and Telangana

While large parts of the country will be hit by thunderstorms and rain, some states will continue to experience the ravages of the sun and heatwaves. Severe heatwaves are expected in parts of Uttar Pradesh (Eastern and Western), Maharashtra (Central Maharashtra, Marathwada, and Vidarbha), and Telangana. This situation is likely to persist in Uttar Pradesh until June 24th. Extremely humid heat will continue to plague people in Andhra Pradesh, Gangetic West Bengal, Konkan and Goa, and Odisha.
