The Indian Railways and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) is preparing to crack down on such cases. Using Artificial Intelligence (AI), it is identifying accounts where unauthorized agents are misusing Aadhaar and mobile numbers to book tickets, causing inconvenience to ordinary passengers.
According to railway officials, many passengers, lured by the prospect of quick ticket confirmation, share their Aadhaar number and OTP with agents. The agents then misuse this information to book a large number of tickets. This not only violates regulations but could also subject the passenger’s IRCTC account to scrutiny.
Action Taken in the Recent Past
According to reports, IRCTC has previously conducted an AI-based investigation campaign. During this period, the account activities of approximately 90 million users were examined. A large number of accounts were found suspicious. Following this, a second investigation was conducted using AI, which found approximately 30 million users to be completely suspicious and blocked.
AI is being leveraged
The Railways and IRCTC are now also monitoring cases where the same Aadhaar number, mobile number, or OTP is being used to book tickets through multiple accounts. The AI system is identifying such patterns and automatically flagging suspicious activity.
IRCTC Advice
The Railways has advised passengers not to share their Aadhaar number, OTP, or other personal information with any agent or unauthorized person. Always book tickets yourself or use authorized channels. Even the slightest negligence can lead to a permanent blockage of your IRCTC account.
