There are two types of limits on withdrawing cash from an ATM – first is the daily cash withdrawal limit and second is the limit on free transactions available every month. Daily limits vary according to bank and debit cards, like PNB has reduced the limit of some cards from ₹ 1 lakh to ₹ 50,000 from 1 April 2026.
As per RBI rules, you get 5 free transactions at your own bank’s ATM, 3 free transactions at another bank’s ATM in metro cities and 5 in non-metro cities. This includes services like cash withdrawal and balance check. After the free limit is exhausted, a maximum charge of ₹ 23 (exclusive of GST) may be imposed on each transaction.
