Christopher Nolan Movie The Odyssey: There is a huge craze among cinema lovers regarding Christopher Nolan’s film ‘The Odyssey’. This is the world’s first film, which has been shot with 1570 IMAX cameras. However, even after spending huge money, the Indian audience will not be able to truly enjoy this film.

There is a tremendous craze among cinema lovers around the world regarding Christopher Nolan’s upcoming film ‘The Odyssey’. The most special thing about this film is that it has been completely shot with ‘IMAX 70mm 15-perf’ i.e. ‘1570 film cameras’. This is the same special format which Nolan likes the most for his films. In the world of cinema, this technology has been given the status of ‘vinyl record’. Nolan’s fans are eagerly waiting for this film.

But a very sad news is coming for the Indian audience. People in India will not be able to see this film in its original form even after spending huge amount of Rs 2500 to 3000 on the ticket. The technology is not present in Indian cinemas which can fully bring this visual miracle of Nolan on screen. In such a situation, even after buying expensive tickets, Indian fans will not get the real experience for which Nolan’s films are known.

What is Nolan’s preferred 1570 format?

The 1570 format simply means that each frame of 70mm film has 15 perforations. This unique technology results in extremely high detail, incredible brightness, and a large image on screen. The screen ratio of this format reaches approximately 1.43:1, allowing audiences to see a large image from top to bottom in the theater. This technique has also been seen in Nolan’s blockbuster films like “Oppenheimer,” “Dunkirk,” and “Interstellar.”

Major Technical Shortcomings in Indian Cinemas

The real problem is that there are currently no commercial IMAX 15/70 film projection theaters in India. This is why Nolan’s film cannot be shown in its original film print in India. Most IMAX screens in India operate on digital laser or normal digital projector technology. This means that Indian audiences will be able to see the IMAX version of the film, but will not experience the 15/70 screen experience used in the film.

India’s Largest Digital IMAX Network

The IMAX network in India is steadily expanding. Currently, there are over 30 operational IMAX screens in the country, but all of them are digital IMAX. IMAX theaters are available in major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Noida, Surat, and Thiruvananthapuram. However, none of these theaters are technologically advanced enough to provide audiences with the immersive experience of true 15/70s film projection.

Incomplete Cinematic Magic Despite Expensive Tickets

India’s major IMAX theaters include Delhi’s PVR Priya IMAX, Select Citywalk IMAX, Mumbai’s Palladium IMAX, Wadala IMAX, Jio World Plaza IMAX, and Noida’s Mall of India IMAX. Apart from these, VR Bengaluru IMAX of Bengaluru, Palazzo IMAX of Chennai and Centre Square IMAX of Kochi also provide a great experience, but they are not at par with Nolan’s preferred format, which means that even after spending Rs 3000, the audience will not get the full frame and the magic will remain incomplete.
