This means senior citizens receive 0.50% higher interest than the general public. Individuals aged 80 years or older are offered an interest rate of 6.25%.
Interest offered on 211-day FDs
SBI offers interest rates ranging from 3.05% to 7.15%. For 211-day FDs, the bank offers rates between 5.90% and 6.50%.
Maximum investment for 211-day FDs
For 211-day tenure FD accounts, SBI offers an interest rate of 5.90% to customers under the age of 60, while those aged 60 or above receive 6.40%. Additionally, customers aged over 80 years earn an interest rate of 6.50%. The maximum investment allowed in this FD scheme is ₹2,99,99,999.
A windfall for senior citizens
SBI has brought great news for senior citizens. They receive an interest rate that is 0.50% higher than that offered to the general public. Furthermore, “super senior citizens” are being offered an additional 0.60% interest.
FDs up to ₹3 crore
These interest rates apply only to FD deposits of less than ₹3 crore. Before opening an FD, it is advisable to check the bank’s current interest rates, as the bank revises them periodically.
No changes to FD rates since December 2025
For reference, SBI—the country’s largest public sector bank—last revised the interest rates for its FD schemes in December of last year. Since then, SBI has made no significant changes to the interest rates offered on its FD schemes.
