8th Pay Commission: The deadline for the 8th Pay Commission has been extended to March 31, 2026. This change is a significant opportunity for central government employees and pensioners. This will provide more time for government employees, pensioners, and other stakeholders to present their views.
This extension was granted at the request of employee organizations, who wanted more time to provide thoughtful feedback. The original deadline was March 16. With this extension, stakeholders can now submit their responses to the 18-point questionnaire by the extended date. Previously, the Commission had released the questionnaire—the 8th Pay Commission Questionnaire—on its official website, seeking direct feedback from employees, pensioners, unions, and other stakeholders.
You can submit suggestions on these issues.
The Eighth Pay Commission questionnaire contains 18 questions, primarily covering the fitment factor, minimum salary, dearness allowance (DA/DR), pension and gratuity schemes, and performance-linked pay. Central employees, pensioners, and various unions can submit their suggestions and feedback through the MyGov platform. This will be used to determine your future salary and pension increases.
Employee Unions’ Demands
- Demand to increase the fitment factor from the 7th Pay Commission’s 2.57 to 3.68.
- Demand to increase the basic salary by ₹18,000 to at least between ₹26,000 and ₹34,560.
- Demand to reinstate the Old Pension Scheme (OPS).
- Demand to reduce the commutation period for pensioners from 15 years to 12 years.
- Demand to increase house rent, education, and medical allowances.
- Demand to pay DA arrears that have been withheld for 18 months during the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Demand to end the 10-year wait for the Pay Commission.
