The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of torrential to extremely heavy rain during the next 7 days in many states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Uttarakhand, Chhattisgarh and West Bengal. Why are 5 cyclonic systems active?
According to the bulletin of the Meteorological Department, several powerful weather systems are active simultaneously in the atmosphere, which are making the monsoon extremely intense. The ‘well-marked low-pressure area’ over northern Odisha and adjoining Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal has weakened into a low pressure area. It will move north-westwards over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining Jharkhand and North Odisha on July 17, which will gradually weaken further in the next 24 hours.
A fresh Western Disturbance in the form of Cyclonic Circulation is active over North Pakistan and its neighboring areas at mid-tropospheric level. Apart from this, cyclonic systems are also active over Haryana and Assam. A trough is passing from North Lakshadweep area to South-West Bay of Bengal. Apart from this, the western end of the monsoon trough is north of its normal position and the eastern end remains close to its normal position in the lower tropospheric level.
Warning of extremely heavy and torrential rain (17-19 July)
Due to these weather systems, flood like situations may arise in some parts of the country. There is a strong possibility of extremely heavy rain at different places in Chhattisgarh on July 17. Heavy to very heavy rainfall may occur at some places in the state. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on July 17 and July 20. After this, there is a red alert of extremely heavy rain at some places on July 18 and 19. There is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rain in different parts of Odisha. After this, heavy rains will continue in some parts between 18th and 20th July.

North-West India (Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Himachal)
There will be scattered rain in Western UP on 17-18 July and in Eastern UP on 17 July. After this, there will be widespread rain at most places in Western UP during 19 to 23 July and in Eastern UP during 18 to 23 July. There is a warning of very heavy rain at some places over eastern Uttar Pradesh during July 19 to 21 and over western Uttar Pradesh during July 20 to 22. There is a possibility of heavy rain in Eastern UP on July 18, 22 and 23 and in Western UP on July 19 and 23.
There will be widespread rainfall in Uttarakhand from 17th to 23rd July and in Himachal Pradesh from 18th to 23rd July. There is a possibility of very heavy rain in Uttarakhand between 18th to 21st July and in Himachal Pradesh between 19th to 22nd July. Apart from this, there may be heavy rain in Uttarakhand on July 17, 22 and 23 and in Himachal on July 18 and 23.
There will be widespread rainfall in Jammu and Kashmir between July 19 and 23, with an alert of very heavy rain during July 20 to 22. Heavy rain may also occur on July 19 and 23. Delhi, Haryana and Punjab are likely to receive isolated heavy rainfall during July 17-19 and then widespread rainfall during July 20-22. Scattered to widespread rainfall is expected over East Rajasthan between July 17-23 and Western Rajasthan between July 18-23.
Eastern India (Bihar, Jharkhand and Bengal)
There will be scattered rain in Bihar today, July 17 and July 22-23, while there will be widespread rain in the state from July 18 to 21. An alert has been issued for very heavy rain at some places in Bihar on July 19 and 20. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of heavy rain on July 17-18 and July 21-23. Central and West India (MP, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra)
There is a possibility of heavy rain in East Madhya Pradesh from July 17 to 21. There will be widespread rain in Western Madhya Pradesh between July 21 and 23. There may be heavy rain in Vidarbha today. Widespread rainfall will continue over Konkan and Goa from July 17 to 23. Heavy rain is expected in Central Maharashtra and Marathwada today.
South India (Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana)
Coastal Karnataka will see widespread rainfall from July 17 to 23, while Kerala, Mahe and South Interior Karnataka are under alert for very heavy rainfall today (July 17). There is a possibility of heavy rain in Telangana and North Interior Karnataka today.
Warning of storm, lightning and strong winds
Along with rain, the Meteorological Department has also given alert of storm and tornado in many states. There is a possibility of lightning along with strong thunderstorm in Jammu and Kashmir (17-23 July), Madhya Pradesh (17-21 July), Jharkhand (17-21 July), Central Maharashtra and Marathwada (17-19 July), North Interior Karnataka (17-19 July), Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam (17-21 July), Rayalaseema (17 July), Goa (17 July) and Telangana (19-23 July). Similar situation will prevail in Gangetic West Bengal today. There is a warning of extremely intense thunderstorms in Telangana on July 17 and 18.
Strong winds will prevail over Bihar, Andaman and Nicobar, Coastal Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal between July 17 and 21 and Kerala and Mahe between July 17-19. There is a possibility of strong surface winds in the coming days in Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema, North and South Interior Karnataka and Telangana.

On one hand, a large part of the country will be drenched in torrential rains, while on the other hand, humidity will be troubling in some areas due to lack of rain. According to the Meteorological Department, there will be very little rainfall activity over west-central and south peninsular India during the next 7 days. Due to its effect, today on July 17, the weather is going to be very hot and humid in Delhi, Haryana, Chandigarh, Punjab, Eastern and Western Uttar Pradesh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Yanam, Rayalaseema, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal. People of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and Punjab will have to face this humid heat on July 18 also.
