Delhi Metro: Good news for Delhiites! Metro will reach Rajiv Chowk from Dwarka in just 25 minutes.

Delhi Metro: Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for a 20-km-long high-speed underground metro corridor from Yashobhoomi in Dwarka Sector-25 to Rajiv Chowk in Connaught Place.

Delhi Metro: The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has prepared a detailed project report (DPR) for a 20-kilometer high-speed underground metro corridor from Yashobhoomi in Dwarka Sector 25 to Rajiv Chowk in Connaught Place. The aim is to significantly reduce travel time from West Delhi to Central Delhi.

This new corridor will be an extension of the existing Airport Express Line and will improve connectivity between the Yashobhoomi India International Convention and Expo Centre, the rapidly developing Dwarka area, and central Delhi.

Five underground stations planned

According to the DPR, the proposed route will have five strategically important underground stations. These will be located near major residential and institutional areas to increase ridership.

The main details of the project are as follows:

Project Information Description
Route length approximately 20 kilometers
Type of metro High-speed underground metro
Proposed station 5 underground stations
Route Yashobhoomi (Dwarka Sector-25) to Rajiv Chowk
Project Agency Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC)
Estimated travel time Expected to reduce to around 25 minutes

The main objective of this corridor is to provide faster and more direct connectivity between the western suburbs of Delhi and the Central Business District.

At present, people travelling from Outer Dwarka to Connaught Place generally have to rely on crowded roads or the long journey via the Blue Line.

According to reports, the proposed high-speed corridor is expected to reduce travel time between Yashobhoomi and Rajiv Chowk to less than 25 minutes, providing a faster option for daily commuters, business travelers, and those visiting the convention center.

Officials believe that this direct connection will ease pressure on Delhi’s roads and also make it easier to reach the capital’s biggest convention and exhibition venues.

Engineering and approval process underway

According to the DPR, relevant authorities are expediting the process of funding approval and obtaining necessary legal clearances. DMRC engineers have completed preliminary soil investigations and alignment studies to ensure the proposed route does not interfere with existing underground utilities and infrastructure.

Since the entire corridor will pass under densely populated urban areas, it is proposed to construct it using Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs) to minimize disruption to road traffic and ground activities.

Potential impact on real estate

The proposed metro corridor is also expected to impact the real estate market in the National Capital Region (NCR).

According to industry estimates, areas along the proposed route, especially in Dwarka and adjoining parts of Gurugram, have seen increased interest from homebuyers and investors ever since news of the project broke.

Property consultants say that better connectivity could boost demand for residential developments around Dwarka and Dwarka Expressway, while residential plots and housing projects in neighbouring Gurugram sectors could also benefit from better metro connectivity.

A new link between West Delhi and the city centre

If approved, the Yashobhoomi-Rajiv Chowk Metro corridor will become a vital part of the Delhi Metro’s high-speed network. It will be an extension of the existing Airport Express Line, providing direct connectivity to the heart of Delhi.

The project is expected to improve connectivity between residential areas, commercial zones, and the International Convention Centre, while also decongesting existing transport corridors and supporting future urban development across the NCR.

Let us tell you that the proposed corridor is currently in the ‘Detailed Project Report’ (DPR) stage and is awaiting necessary approvals before construction begins.
