According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, some states will have banks closed tomorrow. Here’s a summary of which states will be closed today and the reasons behind it.
Why are banks closed today?
In Tripura, banks will be closed today, Tuesday, August 4th. This includes all public and private sector banks such as State Bank of India, Punjab National Bank, Bank of Baroda, Canara, Axis, HDFC, and ICICI. The closure is due to Ker Puja, a significant Hindu festival celebrated in Tripura.

What is Ker Puja?
Ker Puja is observed two weeks after Kharchi Puja. This festival honors Ker, the architectural and guardian deity of the state, with the aim of bringing peace, prosperity, and protection to the people. The puja lasts around 32 to 50 hours, roughly two and a half days, and follows strict guidelines. A sacred circle is formed around the worship area using bamboo poles, and no outsiders are allowed to enter or those inside to exit during the ceremony.

History of Ker Puja
This festival has a rich history, dating back centuries, initiated by the kings of the Manikya dynasty in Tripura. It is believed that Ker Devta serves as the architectural protector of Tripura’s borders. Even today, the Tripura government’s Home Department is responsible for funding and organizing this puja.
Will banks be open in other states?
Banks will be operational in all states except Tripura. The closure in Tripura is due to the local celebration of Ker Puja, while banks in other states will function as usual.
