Hydrogen Train Update: Big update is here regarding Hydrogen Train. On Sunday, Satish Kumar, the Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, announced that efforts are in progress to operate the nation’s first hydrogen train at a top speed of 110 km/h, with plans to extend its operation to additional rail sections.
It’s important to highlight that the inaugural hydrogen train, which runs on an 89-kilometer stretch between Jind and Sonipat in Haryana, was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on July 17. Satish Kumar also assessed various rail projects in Indore and its nearby regions.
While speaking to the media, he mentioned that the current maximum speed for the hydrogen train is set at 75 kilometers per hour, although it has been tested at speeds up to 120 kilometers per hour. Efforts are now focused on achieving a maximum operational speed of 110 kilometers per hour. The Railway Board Chairman indicated that discussions with all relevant parties are ongoing to facilitate the operation of hydrogen trains on other rail lines across the country, and that they are also looking into the technical details and fuel supply logistics to enhance the train’s speed.
Additionally, Satish Kumar shared that the first Vande Bharat Sleeper Express train is currently in service between Howrah and Kamakhya, and that four more such trains are ready for operation and will be officially inaugurated soon. He mentioned that the Railways anticipates receiving 11 additional Vande Bharat Sleeper trains this year. Furthermore, he noted that 200 Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are being constructed under the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model, with an expected completion time of one to one and a half years.
125 special trains will be run for Kumbh
He also stated that plans are underway to run 100 to 125 special trains for the Simhastha fair in Ujjain in 2028, and that infrastructure is being strengthened for this massive religious event. Kumar said that necessary administrative steps are being taken to address the rat problem on trains, and that arrangements are being strengthened.
The Railway Board Chairman stated that artificial intelligence (AI) is being integrated with CCTV cameras to enhance the security of trains and railway stations. He added that land acquisition for the Indore-Manmad rail line, approved for fiscal year 2024-25, is progressing rapidly. The Railway Board Chairman stated that this ambitious project, costing Rs 18,500 crore, will be completed in four to five years.
